About Me and My Cars
It all started when I was but a boy. I had just left my home in Southampton for the dizzy heights and lights of London, to start work for a well known TV company. Back then, I knew little about performance cars. I was far more preoccupied with other interests, such as partying till the sun came up, and a teens never ending fascination with their complexion and strange hair growth.
However, my life was about to change, as one day walking home over Kingston Bridge, my gaze was magnetically drawn to a car, which was unusual, as I never paid much heed to them till then. It seemed to take the roundabout with a precision than defied Newton’s finest work. It's dark blue body and flamboyant gold wheels made progress through the heavy rush-hour traffic with a cocky disregard for the grey and mundane status quo that occupied the other lanes of traffic. I didn't know it at the time, but that moment changed my life.
I went out and bought the first of many car magazines and did my research on what the car could have been. Hours were spent in this pre-Internet era scanning over glossy magazines, until one day, sat at my desk in Teddington Studios, I found it. I swore to myself, right there and then, I would one day own one.
Years passed by, I have since moved back to Southampton and many a car have I owned since that day, from Impreza's to Skylines, but never did I forget the car that had stirred my interest. The dreams and aspirations of youth dim and fade as reality takes its toll, but not for me, for as I sit typing these words, my gaze is repeatedly drawn to the car outside my window.
It has eluded me for fourteen years, but no more. The boy has come home, and with him, a Legend:
The Clio Williams.
