Yes, that time has come.

Sadly it's come to my attention that i have a space and time issue. As in not enough of either! So the decision was made to let the AMG go.

The problem is that it's a great long distance car but my job tends to mean i do long distances in other people's cars. Whilst i'd love to use it daily the reality is that to get to the office i tend to use a motorbike (traffic!) and at weekends i tend to use the 130i (which can carry a fridge in the back, or tow my jetski to the coast, or take my dogs away for the weekend).

So i spread the word, quietly, amongst various Merc and AMG enthusiasts to see what would happen. Almost immediately i was swamped with enquiries and offered various different sums of money. In the end though, i sold the car to the person who pestered me the most by email, who asked the most appropriate questions, who was "keen". The chap in question lives near Bristol where the car had already spent most of its life, and he's clearly a W124 enthusiast. His offer was the lowest i received, but after chatting to him it was clear he'd give the car the best home.

And so it was; i picked him up from Reading station and he drove the car home.

I've since heard that he's sorted the paint issues and has been piling on the miles as well as having a fairly major service done by his local Merc specialist - who gave the car a clean bill of health.

So i set out to save the car from the crusher and it's now in the best home i could have hoped for.

Long live the King.
