This is a kind of interlude in my Cerbera 4.5 journals featuring onboard video at the Nordschliefe, Spa Francorchamps and Silverstone.
October 2006, Cerbera 4.5 at Nurburgring Nordschliefe:
Unbelievably this was my first visit to the 'Ring. Holy crap it's at least as awesome as everybody says!
The first lap was just a slack jawed cruise around trying to take it all in. Nope, no chance of remembering it although I did note that some sections were quite well sighted and could therefore be driven quickly from the off. I did wish I'd watched some videos or played a video game beforehand!
For the second lap I hooked up behind a German EVO VIII to get a feel for the pace of the bits that weren't sighted. Third and fourth laps were a bit quicker and I started to remember some sections. Fifth lap was stopped mid-lap due to a bike crash. As the tourists packed out the track, I called it a day.
I had bullet cams on for laps 3 and 4, so in the Pistenklause Bar I watched them with the help of a 'Ring veteran for some tips about reading the tree line in the valley and the kerbs. I went back to my room to revise for the following afternoon....
Lap 6 was compromised by yellow flags and roadworks. Lap 7 is this one - nine minutes Bridge To Gantry, including slowing down behind the Zafira for the roadworks. The first 50 seconds are blighted by the power connector to the camera wobbling - please persevere because it clears. I return in April and having watched my videos and other much faster laps over and over, I can remember most of it now. High hopes for a low 8 minute lap, maybe a bit better.
This video has quite a bit of breakup, so it's not your connection
October 2006, Cerbera 4.5 at Spa Francorchamps:
My favourite circuit.
The trip to the 'Ring immediately beforehand had killed the front dampers and brakes and flat-spotted the front tyres. Mr Yu hitched a ride for my warm up laps and can testify to the Cerbera's Porsche- passing capabilities. It was the same all day and I packed in two race distance sessions. The car never missed a beat and returned 8.9mpg on track compared with about 13mpg at the 'Ring - gives an indicator of how sedate the 'Ring laps were compared to the "race pace" at Spa. The Cerbera was consistently fielding laps under three minutes despite being hobbled by its suspension problem and brakes.
As a footnote: the front dampers were the car's originals so they’ve lasted for nine years and over 40,000 miles. The brake discs were "past their best" when I set off on the 'Ring/Spa trip. I figured I'd finish them off on the trip, completely underestimating the punishment they would get at the 'Ring.
December 2006, Cerbera 4.5 on the Silverstone National Circuit:
I went out with the intention of having a bit of a play with the Mosler race car. Hmmm.... The Cerbera was still on the shot dampers although I had replaced the brake discs.
January 2007, Cerbera 4.5 on the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit:
Spotting a gaggle of cars in the distance I decided to home in on them and noted that a Porsche 996 Turbo was itself homing in on the pack. No standard Porsche Turbo has ever outdragged the trusty 4.5...
turns out this brute was packing about 650bhp from a worked over 3.8 motor. A great tussle until he outbraked himself at Copse. Note how the 4.5 drops him once past...
January 2007, Cerbera 4.5 on the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit again:
In response to some backchat from the Porsche fraternity about the above video, I cobbled together this footage from the same day as the Turbo tussle.
