auto-journals sets out to capture the real essence of car ownership, the genuine highs and lows that make it a consuming passion for many.
Traditional car magazines are written by professional journalists whose perspective comes from driving manufacturers’ press cars for a few days, without the emotional commitment that comes from ownership.
auto-journals is a growing collective of regular journals written by owners about the day-to-day experiences they have with their cars.
Here you will find the big adventures and little details that make us love or hate our cars - a true picture of what these cars are like to own and how their owners really feel about them.
We’re also collating objective data to supplement the subjective experience, with every writer recording actual running costs and the real world reliability of their rides.
auto-journals is the new authority written by those who know best – the owners.
After a 15 year career in financial consultancy that provided him with the means to indulge his lifelong passion for cars, David decided to change lanes “before he got too old” and gave up life in The Smoke to devote himself to his blossoming motoring journalist alter-ego.
Having owned many performance cars over the years ranging from a Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 (well, technically, two as he wrote the first one off) to a Ferrari 308GTB qv, it was his first Nissan Skyline GT-R and his subsequent co-founding of the Skyline GT-R Register (UK) that brought him to the attention of Performance Car magazine back in 1995.
He started writing for Performance Car in 1997 and has been a contributing writer to evo magazine since its launch in 1998.
He has since had articles published in Car, Ferrari, British Airways magazine Med Life and others.
Stupidly fast cars (Skylines, EVOs and 964 RS Porsches) and conceptual art might seem incompatible, but Tim shares a passion for both in - more or less - equal measure. Indeed, auto-journals unites both his automotive interests and his ideas about media. Tim is a serial entrepreneur who likes to create brands that don't fit in boxes: Artomatic started as a printing company and became one of the hippest stores in London and his other current venture, Destination takes a different look at men's grooming. He recounted his mishaps in his Mitsubishi EVO6 RS for evo magazine's Fast Fleet to many readers' enjoyment - providing part of the initial inspiration for auto-journals.
Joss has owned several performance cars Ferrari 328 GTB, Ferrari 355 GTS, TVR Chimaera and then after a quick ride in David's Nissan Skyline R32, he also got one, co-founded the Skyline GTR Register (UK) and enjoyed ten years running each of the Skyline GTRs; R32, R33 and the R34.
Joss makes computer games for a living, a natural partner to fast car ownership, and built and maintains this fine site.
